Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Pi Iota Lambda Chapter, seated in Tifton, Georgia, invited Seminole County Students to participate in the Kenneth Newkirk Black History essay contest. This essay contest involved 9 surrounding counties where current and former Superintendents, Teachers, and other staff voted on the essays.
The essay contest carried the theme “Celebrate, Motivate, Inspire.”
Contestants were asked to describe an African American in history, their life, or their community who has positively impacted them and how that person personally inspired them.
7th-grade student Lennon Brock placed 1st place in the Middle School Division, and 11th-grade student Kendall Denham placed 2nd in the High School Division. SCMHS is so proud of their accomplishments!
